Ramp Safety and Runway Safety
A 4 Billion Dollar Question

It is estimated that accidents on the ramp and the resulting damage to aircraft and ground support equipment is costing the industry roughly $ 4 billion annually, most of this 'uninsurable or within deductibles limit'. There is a lot at stake here and all is not monetary as injuries to personnel and even deaths are not rare occurrences.

Furthermore, increasing congestion at airports and the pressure to turn aircraft around faster will make matters worse.

Armbrust 's brainchild the Airport Operations Safety Panel (AOSP) brought together leading industry experts to examine this problem and bring it to the attention of airline and airport executives worldwide for urgent action. Armbrust believes that awareness of the problem is a huge step in addressing the problem.

Leveraging the work of the AOSP, Armbrust's
ramp safety experts are assisting airlines
and airports in the following areas:

  • Surveying airports and airlines for
    benchmarking purposes and identifying
major contributing factors to ramp accidents
  • Managing ramp safety through
    participation of all stakeholders
  • Developing standards based on industry best-practice
  • Establishing rules and responsibilities
of equipment operators on the ramp
  • Examining ground movements and alleviating
ramp congestion at airports and avoiding runway
    incursions caused by ramp vehicles
  • Handling environmental spills and remediation
  • Providing appropriate training and motivational
    programs to decrease employee turnover
