China Eastern, Shanghai Airlines Plan Expected Next Month Shanghai Airlines Chairman Zhou Chi said a new detailed plan for its merger with former rival China Eastern would be ready next month, adding Shanghai would remain an independent entity and keep its name. Chinese government officials have been trying to broker this merger for at six months as both carriers have struggling in the current economic recession, Reuters reported. The two carriers combined hold more than half Shanghai air passenger market share. |
